The Market at Lakewood Ranch

 In Collabs, Juice, Lifestyle, Nutrition

If you haven’t heard, there’s a new market in town! The Market at Lakewood Ranch has partnered up with Worden Farm to bring you a weekly gathering of some of the best local vendors and businesses! The Market runs from December to April and is located at the Sarasota Polo Club. Find the SaraFresh Juice truck at this event every Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. through season!

The idea for the farmers market was really more of an evolution. We started a partnership with Worden Farm for their CSA (Organic Veggie Box) program as a first step. While promoting that program, I frequently heard the community comment that they wanted a farmers market. Once we hit our CSA goal, we decided to move forward with a farmers market. Eva and Chris Worden are a huge part of the success of The Market. Lakewood Ranch was once deeply rooted in agriculture. Today, we still have cattle, orange groves, tomatoes, and more. The Market helps us remember our “Ranch Roots” and helps spread our love of local, sustainable agriculture.

– Monaca Onstad, Director of Community Relations for the Market

So, what can you find at The Market at Lakewood Ranch? The Market is a one stop shop for everything from organic produce from Worden Farm, pasture-based, non-GMO poultry from Grove Ladder Farm, local sauerkraut and fermented goodness from Fermentlicious, ready-to-eat foods like Polpo Pizza, fresh bread and cheese, vegan treats, cold-pressed juice from SaraFresh Juice, and so much more!

We’ll even fill you in on a secret! SaraFresh Juice has launched hot foods and we’ll be testing new recipes each week at the Market. Stop by the juice truck for your regular favorites like juice, smoothies, raw snacks, pitaya smoothie bowls, kombucha on tap, and ask for our weekly specials! So far we’ve debuted miso ramen bowls, vegan burrito bowls and this week we’ve partnered with local Chef Mike to bring you harvest bowls, a celebration of organic ingredients from our local markets! Harvest bowls are made with a warm quinoa and kale blend, with roasted fennel, butternut squash, zucchini, mushrooms, topped with crunchy chick peas and roasted pepper basil chutney.

Each week you’ll find live music by local musicians, pop up yoga classes, new vendors, indie craft markets within the market (how cool is that!), culinary demonstrations, and food sampling. Plus, there is a playground on site for the kiddos, and leashed pups are absolutely welcome! Stop by in the afternoon and stay until sundown. You’ll feel peaceful and welcome underneath the palm trees and twinkle lights as you stroll around shopping, mingling and discovering new local treats!

How does the CSA program work? CSA stands for community supported agriculture. Subscribe to the organic veggie box program with Worden Farm and drop by the Market each week to pick up your “share” of the harvest. Not only will you be supporting local farmers and our community, you’ll be helping to promote healthy and sustainable food practices. Who grows your food? If you can’t answer that question, you’re a great candidate for this program!

Who’s your farmer? Chris Worden, Ph.D. and Eva Worden, Ph.D. of Worden Farm grow 100% USDA-certified organic produce. They have been growing fresh, local, organic produce in the Southwest Florida community since 2003. Supporting local is one of SaraFresh Juice’s core values. We partner with local farms, like Worden Farm, to bring you the freshest organic ingredients in each bottle of our cold-pressed juice.

SaraFresh Juice was founded on values like community and knowing where your food comes from, and it’s for this reason that we’re proud to support and be a part of The Market at Lakewood Ranch.
